Surgery of the genitalia “One week of recovery is normally sufficient time for patients to return to work and daily activities, but can take up to six weeks for full recovery. Swelling and discomfort will be normal within the first week, then begin to fade. Strenuous activities and intercourse should be avoided for the first 40 days to avoid prolonging the healing process.
Genital rejuvenation typically falls in three categories: labiaplasty, vaginoplasty and liposuction. Labiaplasty surgery involves reduction of the labia majora or labia minora by removing excess tissue occurring in the outer folds of this tissue. The surgery may include clitoral unhooding if requested. Unhooding is implemented if excess tissue hinders sensitivity during sexual stimulation.
Overly large, wrinkled, or uneven labia may be a congenital trait or may be the result of pregnancy, hormones, or overstretching during childbirth. Women may desire a more rejuvenated look after they are through having children. Young women who have this surgery often do so because they are active in sports and feel discomfort during exercise or because they are self-conscious about their appearance. Tight clothing can irritate labia that protrude excessively, and some women find that sexual interaction is hindered because of discomfort. Other women feel that the upper pubic region – the “mons pubis” – is too full or prominent – especially if a tummy tuck has been performed and tissue in the pubic region is not flattened or tightened at the same time. Some clients believe this gives them a masculine contour under clothes. Liposuction or direct physical excision can remedy this bulging.
